In an attempt to meditate

2 min readJan 22, 2019

I’m a go big or go home kind of person. I actually do the full Whole 30. I wanted to take more pictures on my SLR so I ended up taking a photo a day for an entire year. I finished the entire Q&A a Day for five years. So when I wanted to just meditate a little more and make mornings awesome, I had to turn it into a much bigger project. For my love of documenting everything in my life, I decided to turn this little experiment into a random piece of art. For the 30 days in November I noted the weather outside, the weather inside (my emotions!), wrote down what I was grateful for, how many minutes I meditated, then took a photo of my commute and a selfie (because why not).

I wish I could tell you that since this experiment I’ve kept up with a gratitude journal or a daily meditation practice. Yes I meditate and yes I write down what I’m grateful for, but it is not every day. I did however learn that when I wrote down that I felt like crap that I actually looked the part. I also discovered Anchor Meditation in November — a beautiful in person meditation studio in the Marina. And I made a group of new friends, which was something I was looking for in this newish city!

I still snooze for far too long and “don’t have time to meditate” in the mornings. And I look at my Five Minute Journal on my desk then rush to a meeting. I’m not sure I should turn my entire life into a project but I am curious why it’s the only way I’ll actually do something. While I don’t have many takeaways from this project I will say that it was a great month, I do love meditating, I don’t look 25, I should have worn my fire face mask more, and California is a beautiful place.
